Year end round-up
Yeah, just a wee bit late, what with it being the 3rd of a new year and all...
Scratch that, 12:03am means it's the 4th now. Bugger.
ANYWAY, back to the hole round-up!
Halloween was, for the most part, pretty fun. Sable and I went over to Chloe's to get into costume (the three of us were going as colour-coded pirates: Chloe was in green, Sable was in black (though she was supposed to be red), and I was in blue). We hung out at her place with the intent of handing out candy, but only one person came between the hours of 6pm and 9pm, so we ended up just watching Dead Man's Chest. After that, we intended to me up with friends at a club, but the place was packed to capacity so we couldn't get in, so we ended up going to the gay bar instead.
My only disappointment with the place was that they had very little in the way of holiday themed music. The only Halloween songs they ended up playing were Thriller and This Is Halloween.
Costumes I saw this year were something of a letdown. Most girls were dressed in costumes of varying degrees of sluttiness, and most of the guys were either rappers (at least, I assume they were rappers. For all I know, they were just wearing their normal clothes) or villains from horror movies. It got to the point where if I had one more Freddy Krueger waving his plastic claws at me, I was going to go on a killing spree of my own!
The only costumes that I thought were any good were the ones done by the girls and I (but that's probably just me being biased), a guy dressed up as an eerily accurate Edward Scissorhands (Sable has such a crush on the guy, it's hilarious!), this two year old dressed up as an adorable little lion (which is high praise from me, because I don't like kids), and a girl dressed up as Zant! Her costume totally made my night! Unfortunately, I was a dumb ass and forgot my camera, much to my regret >_<
Nothing really spectacular happened after than, so I'll just move on to November.
Well, for the longest time, I considered November to be something of a non-spectacular month. The only holiday it had was Remembrance Day, and unlike the holidays in the surrounding months, there was no mass of preparation that I had to go to. And while I think Remembrance Day is important, the rest of the month is just a psych-up for Christmas, and got all jaded about that holiday a long time ago. The only good thing about November was NaNoWriMo, which I accidentally discovered just as it was finishing in 2005. I participated in 2006, and got about halfway through my story in 2007, but then came the mid month and the worst week of my life (well, to date, at least).
I'm sure I could go on and on about it, but here's the short version: we found out that my cat had inoperable kidney cancer, and she had to be put to sleep.
More than a month's passed and it still hurts to write that.
Her death hit me hard, harder than I thought it would. The whole week after, I was physically and emotionally sick. No puking, but I ran a fever like you would not believe. And I cried the whole time, harder than when human members of my family died! Of course that's not so surprising, as aside from my parents and brother, I don't have much affection (or tolerance) for my family.
As such, I didn't manage to finish my story by the deadline, but I intend to finish it this month.
Beyond that, much of November was spent recovering and watching Firefly, and then becoming completely head over heels in love with said show. The exectutives at Fox should be shot for cancelling it, and I know plenty of Browncoats who would be more than willing to take a potshot at them.
Of course, being Canadian, I'd probably just throw a pie at them, as that's what we do in lieu of assassination. Well, either pie or chocolate milk (though probably the pie, as I'd end up drinking the chocolate before I could chuck it).
December was... well, it was better-ish. I got all the presents I wanted to give within the first week, so the rest of the wait till Christmas was spent with me hiding in my room and playing through Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (Echoes!) for the upteenth time. This mass playthrough was triggered by the fact that I knew I was getting a Wii for Christmas (as my mom took me up to Future Shop around the beginning of November and said, "Okay, we're getting you and your brother a Wii, so you go get whatever you need for the both of you to play it, and I'll meet you at the till."), and that my brother was getting me Metroid Prime 3: Corruption ("Hey Sibling! I'll tell you what I got you if you tell me what you got me?")
Let me just say this right now: MP3 makes me very very happy. It's in a tie with Zelda for my all time favourite game series, and Corruption does not disappoint. I FREAKING LOVE THIS GAME. If I was a huggy person, I would have hugged my brother.
Ironically enough, I just beat it today (20:34 hours with a 100% completion, baby!) and I've already started my second run through XD
Unfortunately, Grandma came down, so we weren't able to play anything till she left on Boxing Day. Surprisingly enough, she was nowhere near depressing as she usually is. Sure, she complained about absolutely everything, and couldn't do anything quietly, but she didn't have an emo fit of self pity, and that's a big improvement from last year. Never the less, I was more than happy to see her leave.
Odd bit of news I should have mentioned earlier: a cousin who is six months younger than me became a father last year. I find that rather consternating.
The rest of the month was spent in a haze of Ferrero Rocher induced hyperness and Wii Sport competition. And the past few days have been spent on Norion, Bryyo, Elysia and Phaaze respectively :D
