Adventures in alcohol

So I tried me some sake today. Also, my dad, brother and I all ended up having a several-minute-long conversation which comprised of nothing by Firefly/Serenity quotes and laughter, so you'll have to pardon me for slipping into old west talk.

ANYWAY, the sake!

It was a draft cake, which could be drank either hot or cold. When taken cold, it reminded me of vodka (which probably has something to do with both rice and potatoes being sweet yet starchy vegetables). So, basically, it was like drinking lighter fluid.

And when taken hot (well, warm really), the sake seemed to taste even more alcoholic than it did cold, if that's at all possible.

I ended up drinking the rest of mine after I poured it into a slurpee (I'll take sugar over alcohol any day :P ).

Earlier this week, the family and I went for dinner at this old English style pub down the way, called the Crow and Gate. And while we did see some crows, and a gate, there was an assload of ducks there, as well as a pair of black swans that seemed to be doing a courtship song and dance thing which sounded a lot like a didgeridoo. It was really adorable.

So while there, I had this thing called a Blue Monday, which was just blue CuraƧao and Sprite. And the only reason I got it too was because the blue was a fantastic colour. The sibling had a Long Island iced tea, Mum had a rum and coke, and Dad had some kind of pale ale.

I'd had a rum and coke and a Long Island iced tea before, so I asked Dad if I could try a sip of his beer. A sip was all I could manage, because holy shit did it taste bad! Ergh, just thinking about it brings back the awful flavour. And then, like a dumbass, to get the horrid beer flavour out of my mouth, I ate the lime that came with my drink. And I don't care what people say about beer and lime and salt, those flavours together moved me to a whole new dimension of revolting taste. I nearly tossed my cookies. Thankfully, the food was supremely delicious, and that completely made up for the craptacular taste of beer.

Also, chutney goes really, really well with a nice white cheese.

I have to say, though, the only beer I've ever managed to drink was a half a glass of Guinness I split with Chloe. It tasted like a nutty, frothy, medicine milkshake. It was... tolerable.

Like the beer, I'm not much of a fan of wine. I just find it too sour, and any time I do have to drink wine, I end up filling it with pop, juice or sugar. Or all three.

Flavoured Schnapps, on the other hand, are so good. I had a butterscotch one a while ago, and it was so tasty that I drank half the bottle. It's the closest I've ever come to being drunk XD

In non-alcohol related news, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is only EIGHT DAYS AWAY, and my game reservation is taunting me T_T
