Musical Indulgence (part 4)

Alrighty, over the hump! Yeah, I’m cutting my deadline close, but it’s all downhill from here! Well, not for the quality of music, I hope. As to the quality or writing, well, I think that’s going to be another story :P

Q01 - Famicom Medley
Once more into the 8 bit breach, dear friends! Haha, yeah, I’m not really recognising any of the songs here, but they sound good none the less! Well, as good as an 8 bit song can sound, at least. HEY! DUCK HUNT! FUCK YOU, DOG! I hate it when that bastard laughs at me! D:<

Q02 - Stack-Up & Gyromite
Well, aren’t you a cheerful little song! I’m going to not bother with Wikipedia and just assume than this comes from a puzzle game. It’s got a puzzle game feel to it.

Q04 - Chill - Dr. Mario
I’m really fond of what this and other songs for Brawl have done, in that they have the song played with actually instruments, but they’ll throw in some of the 8 bit noises and chords from the original game. It’s vary nostalgic, even if I’ve never played the game XD

Q05 - Clu Clu Land
Golly! Let’s all go to the sock-hop! Willikers! I don’t know what I’m talking about! It started off sounding like it was from the 50’s but not so much now. Maybe 50’s on crack? Oh, and now it’s rocking out! How quaint!

Q06 - Balloon Trip - Balloon Fight
Hey! Nice to see an updating to what they had in Melee! Snazzy new upgrade, yo! I’m sorry, I’ll stop the gang speak. I’m WAY too white to even attempt it.

Q07 - Ice Climber
Haha, oh yes! A jazzed up version of the already jazzy Ice Climbers music! Oh ho! Now with a healthy dosing of rock! To quote the Ninth Doctor, fantastic!

Q08 - Shin Onigashima
Guitar solo! Hm, I believe the correct term here would be, “Rock out with your cock out,” no? Never the less, I still like how it sounds like a traditional Japanese melody, despite sounding like it’s part of an epic rock opera XD

Q09 - Title - Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally
It’s a little mellow for a hot rally. Ah, no, it’s speeding up now! I suppose, much like driving a car, you have to gain speed in a song before you can switch to a higher gear? Engine sounds must mean we hit the top gear then!

Q10 - Type A - Tetris
Metroid again? No? 2001! NO! It’s Tetris! After the sci-fi part, its sounds almost Christmasy. And now were into some big orchestra thing! Hey! More sci-fi! That sounds like a theremin again! Heh! And now a distinctively Russian sounding violin! And now they combine to form PURE AWESOMENESS!

Q11 - Type B - Tetris
You know, for something that’s supposed to be a Russian song, this sounds rather Middle Eastern. And then at times, it will sound Native American. It’s a... fascinating combination. Melding cultures through music can sure come out with some surprisingly great results!

Q12 - Tunnel Scene - X
Right from the first time I heard this on the Dojo, it reminded me of the music from Virtual-On. You know, the only bad thing I’ve found about listening to all these songs from different video games is that I want to play them all right away. But there’s going to be no time to play them once I get Brawl tomorrow! Curse you, me! Why must you always make things so difficult?!

Q13 - BGM B: Power-Up - Wrecking Crew
Hehe, almost started out like Tetris there! I can almost hear it in the background, but there’s an entirely different tune overtop of it. Also, it’s in 8 bit mode, and it’s cute XD

Q14 - Along the Way - Nazo no Murasamejou
Well then! Another 8 bit song! And one that sounds entirely Japanese too! Hehe, why must all 8 bit songs sound cute to me?

R02 - PictoChat
Hehe, the music may be from PictoChat, but I recognise those sound effects from my Wii message board! You can’t fool me with your cheery piano!

R03 - Electroplankton
Um, sorry, but I have to cut this... thing a little short, as all those water sounds make me want to pee! *runs to the bathroom*

R04 - Flat Zone 2 - Game & Watch
Oh hey, this is cool! Spacey! HEEEE!!! NOW IT SOUNDS LIKE THE OPENING FOR THE LONE GUNMEN!! Oh hell yes, that totally makes up for the 3 hours of sleep I got last night! Well, not on a biological sense, but, um, yeah...

R05 - Mario Golf/Mario Tennis
Okay, here’s the thing I don’t quite get: Mario’s in all these games about extraneous sports (tennis, soccer, basketball, the freaking Olympics, for frack sake!), and yet he’s still a tubby plumber? WTF, Mario? Double you tee eff?! Unlike Mario, this song I get, and I like. Especially with the steel drums in there!

R06 - Lip's Theme - Panel de Pon
Hey! Don’t you give me any lip! Yes, I should be slapped for that joke. And I probably will be. This, however, is quite an uplifting sounding song. It’s mostly synthesized, but there’s an acoustic guitar in there, and I’m fairly sure the drums are real too. It’s quite nice, altogether.

R07 - Marionation Gear - Chosoju Mecha MG
Okay, now this most definitely reminds me of Virtual-On! Which is appropriate for this song, as it comes from a mech game, and Virtual-On is also a mech game. You know what else is a mech game? Marionation Gear! Go freaking figure, eh?

R08 - Title - Big Brain Academy
It sounds as though a child is trying to become a bugle, or a bugle is learning human speech. Either way, the end results are frightening... Not that the song is bad or anything, but the idea of children honking and horns speaking kind of wigs me out!

R09 - Golden Forest - 1080° Snowboarding
Damn it! Golden Forest has nothing the hell to do with Zelda, and yet that’s the first thing I think of when I read the title! Luckily (or not) this song sounds nothing like a Zelda song. Unless the Zelda games inexplicably become extreme snowboarding games. Come to think of it, Link did do a bit of snowboarding in Twilight Princess...

R10 - Mii Channel
Hee! I loaded up all of these Brawl songs onto my MP3 player, and was listening to it at work with my dad. He didn’t recognise any of the songs, as he’s not really a gamer. But then this one comes on, and he turns to me, “Now this one, I know! I heard it when you were making a Hitler Mii!” And for the record, I also made a Mii Stalin and Mussolini. My cute little dictators!

R11 - Wii Shop Channel
Hah, this is such muzak! I’d expect to hear this in a mall or something, which is appropriate for the Wii Shop Channel :P

R12 - Battle Scene/Final Boss Battle - Golden Sun: The Lost Age
INTENSE! Hehe, yes, this is most definitely boss music! My aggression levels are soaring to the rock guitar and drums, my urge to kill being driven on by the synthesized chorus! Hehe! It’s stabbing time :D

R13 - Shaberu! DS Cooking Navi
Damn it! Now all I can think of is Link’s fairy partner going at it in the kitchens! And I think I’ve been watching Jamie Oliver a little too much, as she’s talking (and drinking) like him in my little visualization...

R14 - Excite Truck
Oh yes, this is very Excite! ExcitING! Okay, I should stop with the puns. Roak out with your- Okay, I won’t finish that either! You people take all the fun out of everything! But listen! My cheering fans are chanting for me to go on! Well, I’m not exactly sure what they are chanting about, but leave me to my delusions, alright?

R15 - Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day
It started out like muzak, but it’s... well, it’s not straying into muzak territory. It’s not really straying anywhere. Come on, what are you building up to? Oh! Okay, now we’re coming to something!

R16 - Opening Theme - Wii Sports
Heh, the ironic thing is that my mom (my freaking mom!), reached the pro level in all five sports in this game, and I’m still somewhere around 500 some odd points in each. And I’m supposed to be the gamer!

R17 - Cow Racing - Wii Play
YEEHAW! Yep, this is a Western sounding song. Now, cow racing is all fine and dandy (and probably a hell of a lot safer than bull running), but cow tipping would be far more entertaining!

S02 - Encounter - Metal Gear Solid
Espionage! Intrigue! DEATH!! Boxes? Heh, you’ll have to forgive my ignorance of the Metal Gear series. All I really know about it is that it’s supposed to be pretty freaking weird. Despite that, this is some pretty kick ass music!

S03 - Theme of Tara - Metal Gear (MSX2)
Starting off kind of lo-fi... Oh! Never mind, it’s better! Haha, it’s sort of straying towards Mission: Impossible territory! I’m sure it makes me a loser, but upon reading the title of this song, I immediately thought of Tara Strong XD

S04 - Yell "Dead Cell" - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
DEAD CELL!! *clears throat* Well, you did say to yell it... You know, this actually reminds me of the music that plays on a DVD menu, the one with all the Play, Special Features, Audio stuff. Hm, there’s no yelling, though...

S05 - Snake Eater (Instrumental) - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
HEEEE! BOND! I hope that, someday, there’s a James Bond movie called Snake Eater, just so this song can be the title song for it! Somebody fetch me a martini! Shaken, not stirred!

S06 - MGS4 [Theme of Love] Smash Bros. Brawl Version - MGS4: Guns of the Patriots
This has to be the least “love” oriented theme of love I’ve EVER heard. Unless it’s a love of blowing shit up in Communist countries. In a movie set during the Cold War, as that is a rather Russian violin getting it’s melancholy on.

S07 - Cavern - Metal Gear Solid
Neverending Story!?! Hm, suddenly it’s become something out of Metroid... Hah, I wonder how Snake would react to something like Kraid?

S08 - Battle in the Base - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Uh oh! Thing’s have gone bad! Again, this has some vaguely Bond music qualities to it. Also, more stuff that sounds like the Lone Gunmen! HAH! And now it sounds like the music that played during the fight with Mo’Mojo in the Powerpuff Girls movie!

S10 - Opening Theme - Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
Hm, would this be 8 bit or 16 bit? Can’t quite recall what system this game was for. Hehe, never the less, this sounds like covert operation music to me!

S11 - Calling to the Night - Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Okay, this is starting out like it should be the Theme of Love! Oh hey, there’s singing! Yeah, this I could definitely see as an ending theme for a Bond movie. Or this one could play when Bond’s getting it on with whatever attractive female of legal age happens to be around. Or, oddly enough, on Titanic O_o

T01 - Credits - Super Smash Bros. Melee
Heh, neato! Aren’t we all jazzed up! Damn it, now I want to shoot people’s names! PEW PEW PEW!! My record was a hundred and something...

T02 - Menu - Super Smash Bros. Melee
Alright, that is it! As soon as I am freaking done these songs, I am going to bloody well play Melee! Screw sleep! I have video games that need playing!!

T03 - Opening - Super Smash Bros. Melee
I just realized that Melee has been out for seven years. Seven years! If a kid bought this game when they started kindergarten, they’d just be starting the seventh grade! And the original Smash Bros. is nine years old! Next year, the Smash Bros. series will be a freaking decade old! The mind boggles!

T05 - Vs. Master Hand - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
EEEEEEEE!!! I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE!!! Ohmygod, this is the music that’s going to play when you fight Master Hand!?! I’m glad I’ve heard it now, or else I would have probably been dumb and lose against him multiple times just so I could hear this song! *freaks out*

U01 - Green Hill Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog
Hehe, now this brings back memories! Memories of my cousin and I hanging out and playing video games while his mother spiralled ever downwards towards madness. Good times!

U02 - Scrap Brain Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog
Hey! This reminds me of music from the Iria game! Is that knocking in the song? Okay, yes it is! That kind of freaked me out there!

U03 - Emerald Hill Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
In all honestly, I’ve never actually played a Sonic game all the way through. As I said before, I mostly played them at my cousin’s place. Well, I say “played” as though I actually did any good at the game, but the truth is, it took me till I was about thirteen before my finger dexterity allowed for gameplay that didn’t always result in INSTANT FREAKING DEATH WHEN THE STUPID BLUE HEDGEHOG WOULDN’T GET OUT OF THE FREAKING WATER AND DROWNS!!! *heavy breathing*

U04 - Angel Island Zone - Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Ooh! Steel drums! This song’s rather adorable, in an odd way. Maybe it’s the inheriting cuteness in actual hedgehogs that have somehow passed through the game and into the song? Because honestly, Sonic looks nothing like a hedgehog. After all, they are nether blue nor fast. I think the main inspiration behind the Sonic, nay, ALL games, is psychotropic drugs.

U06 - Sonic Boom (Intro Version) - Sonic CD US Version
Hehe, this sounds like it comes from the 90’s. Oh my piss, it sure does! I’m having horrible flashbacks to 1995! I think I might cry! Cry of shame!

U07 - Super Sonic Racing - Sonic R
HAHAH!! OHMYGOD!!! IS THAT BLONDIE?!?! Okay, maybe not so much in the chorus, but DAMN! I could have sworn that was Debbie Harry! HEEEEEEE!!!

U08 - Open Your Heart - Sonic Adventure
Open your heart, TO ROCK! Haha, all these songs with actual singing are making me laugh! But in a good way! Mostly...

U09 - Live and Learn - Sonic Adventure 2
Alright, this is sounding slightly less lame and 90's-ish. SLIGHTLY. Okay, the chorus is pretty cool. I LIKE THIS SONG, ALRIGHT? DOES MOCKING ME MAKE YOU HAPPY!?! Probably. Hell, I feel the same way about mocking me! I mock everything! Nothing is sacred! I’m looking at you, religion!

U10 - Sonic Heroes - Sonic Heroes
Hah! The guitars make me think of Friends! First Debbie Harry, and now this guy, in parts, almost sounds like Freddie Mercury! Well, if you’re going to imitate anybody, you may as well imitate singers with actual talent :P

U11 - Right There, Ride On - Sonic Rush
Hee, rocky! I just know there’s going to be singing. Ah, right there! Okay, so maybe just some samples. Hm, I thought we were going to have some more 90’s singing. Is it just me, or does the dude saying, “Right there!” sound like Fry from Futurama?

U12 - His World (Instrumental) - Next Gen Sonic the Hedgehog
Instrumental! That means no singing! Hehe, okay, fine, the singing was fine, it just threw me for a loop is all! Stop staring at me like that!

U13 - 7 Rings in Hand - Sonic and the Secret Rings
HAH! Now this reminds me of the 1985 Transformers movie! Now why the hell does that guy sound so familiar? Damn it, that’s going to drive me nuts!
